Hi all, I kn ow it has been a while since my last blog, but I wanted to share an advertising scam that I was almost lied in to committing to yesterday.

A man, with a  very thick accent, and obviously in a call center, called and said he was from the yellowpages. I couldn't understand what he was saying but he did mention google and yahoo a couples times. He then said he was doing a courtesey call to those of us that advertised last year, so we can sign up for this year. He just needed to verify some information. Assuming I did this last year, I agreed. Until he went on to read our old address, which we have not given out in about a year and a half. So I stopped him, and asked what the website was he was refering too, he said www.easyyellowpages.com, and it was only $479.99 a year. So I immediately entered that website in my browser and when it opened, I typed "garage doors" and "Apopka", you can't really find us any easier than that... and presto.... NO FLORIDA DOOR SOLUTIONS! Only two companies that do not have a garage door license with any of the surrounding counties. I tried Garage door repair in Orlando... nothing. I think I tried every city in the 20 miles area, and still nothing.

 Easy Yellow Pages are lying to businesses, hoping they will not realize that they had never advertised with them before and will sign up for a year.  Dont get caught up in there scamming practices! I realize it is a tough economy, but don't believe everything you hear!

1. All employees are CPR certified by the American Heart Association

2. All emplyees are 1st Aid and AED trained by the American Heart Association

3. All foreman are OSHA-10 trained Construction Certified/ Trained

4. All technicians are FortLift and ManLift Licenesed

5. Safety Coordinator holds a OSHA-30 certificate

6. Weekly safety meets are held for 30 minutes to discuss different topics

7. Each installation vehical is equipment with a tie-off, safety goggles, hard hat and gloves

8. Fire retardant uniforms are supplied for all technicians (steel toe boots are required-except for residential)

9. A mandatory lunch break and two 15-minutes breaks (as per DOL) are included in each scheduled day.

10. Each technician is factory or manufacturer trained before visiting a job site or installing material

Safety, Safety, Safety, is our game! We strive for a accident-free work day, every day.  Our OSHA 300A form is accident free for the last four years. Welcome to the new website www.fladoor.com. Now we can offer Garage Door Products (Such as garage remote controls, keyless/wireless keypads, and gear kits, etc) to homeowners via the internet, it is a secure check out with Paypal and the parts are shipped via USPS priority mail or UPS, usually arriving with in a week. Our garage door technicians are factory trained and very knowledgable. Our service trucks are fully stocked so that we can fix it the first time, everytime. We do offer 24/7 emergency service, but our standard hours are Monday- Friday 8 am-5pm (office are M-F 8-5 as well). Florida Door Solutions is a FAMILY operated garage door company. My father Bill Cook is 100% owner and my mom, Robyn, and I are all active in the daily operations. Dad has been in the overhead door industry for more than 30 years. He started as a service and installation technician when my mom was pregnant with me, so he understands garage doors inside and out.  The four of us started Florida Door Solutions in January of 2002. Billy, my younger brother has moved on to another industry but he still maintains our computer network and IT.

We have close to 30 employees now, including long time friends and other family members.  Staying in our community is one of the things that make us strong.  My brother and I grew up in Apopka; we both went to Apopka High School before venturing to Rollins College. In 2008 Florida Door Solutions moved to 777 S. Park Avenue, on the corner of Park Avenue and 8th Street in Apopka. This location allows us to be more accessible to our customers. Since starting the company Florida Door Solutions, our office has been separate from our warehouse, until now. This move helped to make us a one stop shop, the facility is large enough to house our current operations, but also leaves room to grow.

In the next year we will be involved in several exciting projects, including the new home for the Orlando Magic (Orlando Events Center) and the Orlando Fire Station #1, which will be a “green” facility, we are also a part of the expansion of The Peabody hotel and the new UCF Medical Center.
